if you're wanting greenery in arizona for your fall family session, you're in the right place.
As I'm opening my bookings for fall photoshoots, I thought I'd feature a classic, an absolute (green) gold mine for your family portrait session -- The Salt River.
It's no secret that the river is a haven for photographers, as it has such a diverse landscape and is an oasis in Arizona, any time of the year. Whether a sunrise session or golden hour, it's stunning everywhere you look.
the easy, go-to spot along the river for all family session needs is Water users recreation site
This specific spot on the river may be the furthest away, but it's the most accessible, easily navigated by littles ones or wheelchairs (although for any wheels, some spots may be too sandy).
If you're after both desert and greenery, I highly recommend as it has the best of both worlds.
maternity sessions in the water
If you're expecting a baby in October or November, I highly recommend planning for a river session while the weather is still warm in August and September and the water is still comfortable enough to cool off in.
My absolute favorite spot to photograph along the river is a hidden gem.
This lush desert family photoshoot location is the best for a few reasons. It's a small walk to the greenery, which gives your kids time to explore and warm up to me as I get to know them, finding all the bugs and lizards together before I ever point an intimidating camera in their face. My goal is always to have their smiles and expressions be natural and not forced, especially when we get a few classic Christmas card poses.
I also love this location because it's a relatively quiet path, not overrun by every other photographer and their mom. It's a unique little spot and has a great variety of vegetation and scenery so not every photo looks the same.
Mothers deserve their own kind of river photoshoot.
While I've got your attention, and we're on the topic of river photoshoots, one of my absolute favorite things to photograph near or in the water are women coming home to themselves. If you're wrapping up your summer with kids that have been home from school for months and you're feeling a little depleted (girl, same), might I interest you in a river goddess experience? I have two experiences on my calendar -- August 20th and September 27th.
Adventurous locations near the Salt River
I am all for photoshoot locations off the beaten path and as an avid Jeep family, we love exploring the stunning landscape the East Valley has to offer, finding unique locations for my photography clients.
Another great location not far from the Salt River that has beautiful desert landscape and boulder mountains is in Bulldog Canyon. If your family loves the outdoors and has a high clearance vehicle this is a gorgeous option you might not have considered before. **Tonto OHV Permit required.
